Chronicle 9 has been discontinued, and it is no longer available for sale in the Mac App Store. In addition, due to a change Apple is implementing in receipt validation, copies of Chronicle 9 purchased in the App Store may cease to open at some point after January 24, 2025.
Chronicle 10 for Mac came out in 2021, and most people have nothing to worry about. However, if you're currently using a copy of Chronicle 9, or are not sure of your version, please see the sections below for what to do.
How to Check Your Version of Chronicle for Mac
To check what version of Chronicle for Mac you are using, launch Chronicle, and then click the menu in the top left corner of your screen, next to the Apple logo, labeled Chronicle or Chronicle Pro, and then click About Chronicle. A window will come up showing you your Chronicle version number.
If your version is version 10 or higher, you have nothing to worry about. If you have some version of version 9, please check the table below:
| This Copy Will Continue To Work: If your copy of Chronicle 9 has a build number in parentheses that begins with 8 (as in the above example), it will continue to function. However, we recommend switching to version 14. | This Copy Will Cease To Work: If your copy of Chronicle 9 has a build number in parentheses that begins with 9 (as in the above example), it will cease working after January 24, 2025. See below for alternatives. |

If You Have a Chronicle Cloud Account
If you already have a Chronicle Cloud account, you can download Chronicle 14 for Mac, for free, and sign in to your Chronicle Cloud account to import all your bills. Chronicle 14 for Mac is available in the Mac App Store. When you sign into your Chronicle Cloud account in version 14, all Pro features will be unlocked, and all your bills will import.
If you're not sure if you have a Chronicle Cloud account, or if your Mac is unable to use version 14, please contact us and we will help you.
If You Don't Have a Chronicle Cloud Account
If you don't have a Chronicle Cloud account, you have two options
Option 1: Switch to Chronicle 14. Download it from the App Store here. When you first launch Chronicle 14, there will be an option on the last page of the welcome screen to import your bills from Chronicle 9. Use that option, and then all your bills will import. Note that to fully unlock Chronicle 14 and to sync it with the iPhone and iPad versions, you will need a subscription—it's very affordable, at just $11.99 per year (that's just $1 a month).
Option 2: If your Mac is unable to run Chronicle 14, please contact us and we can help you get a license to the version of Chronicle 9 which was sold on our website, and transfer your bills over. While this version is no longer being updated, it will allow you to keep using Chronicle if you have no other options.
A Note About the Legacy Chronicle Cloud Subscription
While it has not been available for sale for many years, there are still a handful of people subscribed to a legacy Chronicle Cloud subscription sold via version 9. If so, when your current subscription term ends, it will not auto-renew, and you will need to re-subscribe to the current subscription at that time.
To check, open the Mac App Store, and click on your Profile Picture. Then, tap the Account Settings link, and scroll down to the Manage section and click the Manage link to view your subscriptions:
On the list that comes up, check your Chronicle subscription. If you see the words Chronicle Cloud referenced in the subscription name or subtitle, it will not renew again. You'll have to subscribe to the current version, available via Chronicle 14 for Mac or iOS.
If you have questions about this, please contact us and we'll help you out.
