If your Mac is not able to support the latest version of Chronicle 14, and you have an old version of Chronicle purchased in the App Store that will no longer work after January 24, 2024 (see our support article here), you will need to follow the steps below to switch to the version of Chronicle 9 that was originally sold on our website. Note that version 9 is discontinued and is no longer supported or sold, but it does still work, with a few limitations if you are syncing with iOS.
Part 1: Prepare Your Database
The version of Chronicle available on our website cannot access data from the App Store version due to App Store sandboxing rules. So you'll have to move your database so that Chronicle can access it. In your current, App Store version of Chronicle 9, go to Chronicle's preferences, and select the Advanced tab. It will look like the screenshot below.
On this screen, click the "Move Database" button, and on the window that pops up, select your Desktop, and click "Move".
After clicking Move, you'll have a new file on your Desktop named "Chronicle.chdata".
Finally, drag your existing copy of Chronicle to the trash.
Part 2: Setup Chronicle 9.8 from Our Website
- Download Chronicle 9.8 from our website.
- In Finder, drag the copy of Chronicle you downloaded from the Downloads folder to the Applications folder.
- Launch this copy of Chronicle.
- Click the Chronicle Pro menu in the top left corner of the screen, near the apple logo, and then click Registration > Registration …
- Paste in the serial number given to you by Chronicle support, and then click Register.
- Go to Preferences > Advanced in this copy of Chronicle, and click the "Open a Different Database" button
- Select your Desktop folder and click "Open". Important: The Chronicle.chdata file itself will be greyed out. This is normal—just select your Desktop folder.
- Your bills should load in this copy of Chronicle.
- Finally, click the "Move to Default Location" button to reset the database to the default location.
