Chronicle's tagging system can be used to filter your bills. When adding or editing a bill, add tags in the tag section. The tags you create will appear on the dropdown menu on the top toolbar (labeled "All Bills" when you have no tag selected).
When you select a tag, the entire interface, including all reports, update to show just bills matching that tag. Tags are also displayed at the bottom of the bill detail list.
You can use bills to sort expenses in many ways. Here are some common examples:
- Personal and Business Bills: Add the tag Personal to personal bills, and Business to business bills. Select one to see just those bills.
- Bills For Different People: If you manage bills for more than one person (such as a spouse or parent), you can add a tag with your name to bills belonging to you, and their name for bills belonging to them. For joint bills, add both tags.
- Bills Paid From Different Sources: If you pay some bills with your bank, and others with your credit card, for example, it may be helpful to see which bills come from where, so that you can select a tag to get a better idea of your spending. For example, if you tag bills which are paid by your Bank with the tag Bank, you can select that tag to see just the amounts that you pay from your bank account, not counting amounts that get added to your credit card balances.
You can also set specific copies of Chronicle to display only bills matching a certain tag by default. To learn more about this, see our article here.
